History:
The Symbiont:
Zen was born around the year 2172. The first host for Zen was a woman named Nezra. She was a historian and teacher on Trill. Nezra married and had 5 children. She lived to be 102. Zen was then placed in Henik. He was a student of Diplomacy when he was joined with Zen and later became the Trill Ambassador to The United Federation of Planets. Henik live to be 93. Zen's next host was a young male officer, Jovan, who was shortly afterwards assigned to the USS Eisenhower as Helmsman. Jovan Zen was critically wounded on an away mission as First Officer of the USS Saratoga and the symbiont was removed and then joined with Kaylan back on Trill.
The host:
Kaylan was born on Trill to Karum and Lorin Tren in the beginning of the year 2341. In 2358, at the age of 17, she began her symbiont initiate training, concentrating on nothing else but the meditations and training needed for joining. Kaylan joined with the symbiont Zen in the year 2364.
The Joined Trill:
Kaylan Zen joined Starfleet in the fall of 2364 and graduated in 2368. Her first starship assignment was the U. S. S Trekker with the rank of Ensign and position of Asec. She quickly went up in rank to Lt. Junior Grade. One year later she was promoted to full Lt. In the year 2370, Kaylan was offered Chief Of Security on the U. S. S. Roosevelt and promoted to rank of Lt. Commander. The year 2372, the First Officer of the U. S.S. Roosevelt was offered, and accepted, his own captaincy on another ship. Kaylan was then promoted to First Officer with the rank of Commander. On Stardate, 49902.07, Cmdr. Zen was seriously injured during a planetary battle with the Jemhadar. She took a leave of absence for 6 weeks to heal and go through physical therapy for her injuries. When she returned, Kaylan recieved the Starcluster medal and was offered the Captaincy on the USS Patriot.
StarFleet Psychological Profile:
Stardate 46804.03: Cadet Kaylan Zen is highly enthusiastic and diciplined. Shows great respect for authority and is quite friendly to others. She has had a healthy upbringing and has never endured any trauma before her joining with the symbiont Zen. There appears to be no lasting effects from the trauma the last host endured from his critical injuries before he died. While it is believed she is grieving another loss having to do with Wolf 359, I believe she is going through the normal grieving process and will heal from this even though she does not wish to dicuss it at this time.
Stardate 47211.18: After interviews with fellow crewmates and her Captain, I have learned that while Cmdr. Zen is capable of being very diplomatic in relations with others, she can be a fierce soldier in battle when need be. Is very evened tempered and while she is a private person, she is easy to talk too. Kaylan is very serious and dedicated to her postings and expects only the same from others. Needs to be more flexible at times.
Stardate 47503.07: It is recommended that Commander Kaylan Zen takes a leave of absence not only for her physical injuries but for her mental healing as well. Captain Stewart has talked to me about his concerns. There has been reports of tempered outburst and the CMO, Dr. Susan Graham has reported the Cmdr has had great difficulty sleeping.
Stardate 47504.21: The Cmdr has just recieved and excepted the captaincy of her own ship and I feel she is well rested and mentally fit; I am releasing her to active duty.
